You will want the object to have light directly from a single direction, so that you can have light as well as casting shadows on the object. This will enable it to have a depth of field and dimension. You will need to choose whether you desire a soft or harsh light. The harsher the light the more shadow you will create. Reflectors are often used in still life to tone the light down. The best and most commonly use type of lighting for still life photography is side lighting. Side lighting will certainly help you to achieve more contrast between the objects.
